Uneke Chapel: Ray Mullins on worse than death matters

Wagga Wagga Show ran out of soft toys today … as sun came out and all the shooters and tricksters came to the show

"This morning on ABC local radio," reports Wagga Wagga's  Ray Mullins, "a police spokesman from Griffith was commenting on a recent spate of rock throwing at motor vehicles in his town. Warning about the dangers of the practice, he ended by stating that 'this could lead to death, or worse'."

- Ray Mullins of Lachie Fame

Ray Mullins of Wagga Wagga says: "In 1988, the then Department of Lands opened the wonderful Hume and Hovell ( not Howell) Walking Track, extending over 450km from Yass to Albury, as a Bicentennial Project. One of its staunchest supporters was keen walker, Tim Fischer, instigator of Tumbatrek, the annual walk for politicians in the Tumbarumba region. May he rest in peace."

At age 17, Beacie Lenehan left her family property “Wirrani” in Narrandera to attend schools  in Wagga Wagga. . . Along with new found freedom and skills, she also found Chris Gestier who suggested she opens a cafe at the Crown Corner. Few years later in the middle of the night at a kitchen table bench, Beacie went to write ✍️ down that stubborn word and found herself with a complete block on how to spell unique. Sounding it out she put pen to paper and came up with Uneke …

Today Uneke is set in the building with high ceilings, rustic beams, exposed brick and historical architecture create a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere. Those large windows and doors offer gorgeous natural light.

Since opening its doors in December 2009, Uneke Lounge has captured the hearts of Wagga Wagga locals, renowned for consistent fare and offering a polished restaurant style. Contemporary and stylish, Uneke basks in a moody ambience, with Parisian style portraits, exposed brick walls, candle topped tables and bi-fold doors that open out to a rustic inspired courtyard. Fresh, local ingredients are highlighted on Uneke’s menu of global cuisine ranging from breakfasts such as Spanish poached eggs with house made baked beans, poached eggs and a side of toasted sourdough to night time options, perhaps a Mezze plate to graze over with casual, after-work drinks, or heavier mains like tender chicken stuffed with feta and prosciutto served on asparagus, cherry tomatoes and sautéed herbed potatoes.
