Pitchfork at La Cantina Cave like to Borneo Orangutans 🦧

It's in the nature of Italians to live life with a positive tone and to celebrate the invitations that come along in life. Italian food is so conducive to all of that.

Those after a high quality, authentic Italian dining experience in Canberra choose La Cantina restaurant in Narrabundah. The restaurant may be located just south west of the capital, but the surroundings and food will have you believe you are a world away. The simple, chic dining room is an open space of exposed Roman-style brick work and low-hanging bulbs that give off a soft light. There is traditional and modern Italian fare on the menu - We eye 👁 the following offerings:

Pappardelle

Pesto with semi dried tomatoes, shaved cheese and pine nuts

Calabrese Pizza

With chilli, fior di latte, pepperoni, onions and capsicums

Cantina Pizza

White base. With fior di latte, fennel sausages, chat potato, rosemary and Gorgonzola

It's an seasonably cold evening On Friday night we go to La Cantina at the Narrabundah shops, and as we walk inside, the restaurant is everything we're looking for. It's cave-like with exposed brick and low lighting, which makes for a cosy and inviting space, and you can smell the hint of a pizza oven.

We're greeted promptly and seated at a table right next to the glass frontage, providing ample opportunity for people watching. While there are white linen tablecloths, there's nothing stuffy here, and the restaurant has the casual feel of a family-run neighbourhood restaurant.

The wine list is a document in itself with a thorough selection of international and Australian wines.

Vintage 2018

Bright and clear slamon pink hues. This wine is clean, fresh and has an inviting berry fruit nose. Aromas of vanilla bean ice-cream and fresh strawberries. The palate is fresh and lively with rich juicy red fruit characters. Lingering fruit flavours carry through the palate which finishes with just a hint of red wine texture. The perfect wine to enjoy on a winter day with pizza 🍕 or pasta 🍝

The menu is split into bread and starters, pasta, pizza, mains and dessert. There's also a degustation for $90 and a banquet shared menu for $55, which looks like a great option for groups. It's also impressive to see the variety of gluten-free dishes available, something that's not always the case at an Italian restaurant.

Everything looks homemade ... even our partners in crime G & G boast their home a stone throw away - 10 minutes leisurely stroll to the joint on a starry 🌟 night ...

The trouble with eating Italian food is that five or six hours later you're hungry again.
