NYTimes: Any creative illustration “fixed in a tangible medium” is eligible for copyright, and, according to the United States Copyright Office, that includes the ink displayed on someone’s skin. What many people don’t realize, legal experts said, is that the copyright is inherently owned by the tattoo artist, not the person with the tattoos.

Nestled in the beautiful seaside village of Avalon, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches since 1992, Bookoccino strives to celebrate the literary life by honouring the rich traditions of the world’s greatest salons. Reading, conversation and the vibrant exchange of ideas rest perfectly alongside quality food and fine wines.

Bohemian and epicurean at heart, Bookoccino launched a boutique wine bar in early January, serving excellent produce with integrity and simplicity, together with a selection of carefully chosen wines. The book shop offers exciting program of ‘in conversation’ events with local and international authors; twice weekly story time for children; several thriving book clubs; Sunday Jazz sessions, and writing workshops for poetry, memoir and fiction.

Avalon Beach takes centre stage with its rugged coastline, deep golden-hued sand and crashing waves. Surfers can be seen year round vying for the perfect wave. At the southern end of the beach, the ocean pool attracts young families while the adventurous take to the rocky ledges to jump into the deep blue sea.

Boating culture reigns supreme along Pittwater. Many homes cascade down into the bay, many come with their own jetty. Avalon Sailing Club is a focal point for seafaring adventures – whether by kayak or yacht, all take to the water with Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park as the backdrop.

In the midst of all of this is the laid-back village with its selection of organic and alfresco dining, health food stores, and boutique shopping catering to the sun-loving surfie, the health conscious and the well-heeled alike.
