Cold War is Hot Peace

As cryptic  🤡 De Darrell observed over lunch only the paranoid  whisperers  will survive  as robust arguments are a thing of the past. There are more and more cowards and false kafkaesque  regime shills in most agencies … May the banality of investment in rumours amuse one and all …

Once heard, never forgotten, the voice is familiar to admirers of The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Heat, The Irishman and countless others. “Trump wants revenge,” says Robert De Niro, “and he’ll stop at nothing to get it.”

This was an ad released on Friday by Joe Biden’s campaign to remind voters of Donald Trump’s dark and divisive presidency and warn that his return to power could be even worse. The use of De Niro – a fierce Trump critic – as narrator was no accident but a reminder of the power of celebrities at the ballot box in America.

De Niro said that Trump voters 'bought into his bulls***.'

'Trump bought their votes with outrageous lies and empty promises,' the actor said.

War is Peace

“War is Peace” was an anchoring concept within the astonishing dystopia portrayed in George Orwell’s “1984”. This extraordinary, ground-breaking novel was a warning to the world, which drew on Orwell’s deep understanding of Stalin’s USSR. But even Orwell, in 1984, did not conceive of a Nobel Peace Prize recommendation pivoting on active preparations for aLpp

China’s second day of war games around Taiwan tests ability to ‘seize power’ Reuters

Fresh revelations suggest that the scandalous behaviour at London-based Murdoch newspapers was wider and deeper than previously believed.

In June 2010 Rupert Murdoch’s London tabloid, the News of the World, reported that Liberal Democrat MP Chris Huhne was engaged in an extramarital affair. It was a run-of-the-mill but potentially damaging story of a secret romance that would have battled to meet any public-interest test.

Biglaw Firms Fall Prey To Cyberattacks

Above the Law- With Data Breaches On The Rise: “Biglaw firms — and law firms, generally — continue to find themselves the victims of cyberattacks, and we’re currently on pace for 2024 to be the worst year yet for law firm data breaches. The legal profession certainly isn’t off to a great start this year when it comes to cybersecurity incidents.

Right now, just five months into 2024, 21 firms have already filed data breach reports with state attorneys general offices (whereas last year, 28 breach reports were filed in total)…”

Hacked data reveals which US gun sellers are behind Mexican cartel violence

USA TODAY exclusive: “A massive leak of Mexican military intelligence has exposed for the first time in two decades U.S. gun shops and smugglers tied to 78,000 firearms recovered south of the border – and which types of guns are being trafficked.

The nuggets of information are among roughly 10 million records hacked by an anonymous collective known as “Guacamaya” and shared with news outlets by the transparency organization Distributed Denial of Secrets, or DDoSecrets. The Mexican Defense Ministry leak previously made headlines for exposing military corruption and surveillance abuse, and now reveals the trace data on American-sold firearms recovered since 2018. Despite efforts to stem the flow, these American firearms are smuggled south as part of the cycle of Latin-American narcotics headed north.

The violence in Central America fueled, in part, by guns also has contributed to the migration crisis at the U.S. border. As part of the leak, emails relaying U.S. government data between Mexican military leaders and PowerPoint presentations by Mexico’s attorney general show which American straw buyers were tied to the most weapons as of 2022.”

The bleak picture of Australian politics: this is how we change

We are confronting a deep structural crisis in our society. We have confused the idea of democracy with the institutions of political parties and representative democracies. The major parties have become structures representing economic and security elites to which only second rate personalities flock, incapable of navigating the huge challenges we face globally. Meanwhile, the
