Blogging is dancing to a new beat. Given the ticklish nature of the latest blogging flirtations, hop aboard the blog bandwagon ... If you proscratinate you'll probably find it crowded when you do. Everyone's been saying that blogs are hot. Well, despite the fact that a supposed 62% of us don't actually know what a blog is

The Blog, The Press, The Media: Invasion of the Blogs: Raising Ticklish Questions

Dan Gilmor, a respected Silicon Valley newspaper columnist, has left his position at the San Jose Mercury News to become a "citizen journalist." Gilmor published We, the Media, last summer, a look at the burgeoning grassroots journalism movement. I commented on it when it came out. Bloggers are the center of this phenomenon. Time magazine even awarded the Powerline blog as a "blogger of the year" for its investigation of Rathergate. Here's a moderate to liberal traditional news magazine recognize quality journalism in a blog by conservative lawyers from Minnesota. When the mainstream media takes notice like this, it means a corner has turned.

In the middle of the journey of our life, when we begin to start to feel the weight of the crimes we are hauling behind us, we might turn to literature for wisdom. It is not readily available, but I have always found it in Leo Tolstoy and his War & Peace. Both Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich and Confession demand that readers reflect on what the inevitability of death means to us, and on how we shall face our own end.

I also won’t pretend to understand why in the middle of the night some of the deep and stirring quotes and manifestos came to me. Why do I oppose communism and fascism? Because they will eventually come for you. That’s why. The loser like me is strong because he has nothing left to lose. People who are life’s winners, apparently, are weak because they have so much they want to hang on to. The upwardly mobile are particularly afraid. We are afraid of losing what we have attained, because it is not secure. neither morally nor financially. There are events in seemingly far away places that have significance way beyond their immediate implications. Every story starts with water ... and the Morava River keeps our Cold War past alive.
