Some like it corny
Some like it hot, in the boiling waters of an underground spring. Some like it cold, in Antarctic lakes. And somewhere in between - a warm swamp or a cosy animal stomach - is just right for other methanogen microbes to flourish.
Named for their foul-smelling methane gas burps, these tiny organisms are the only ones known to be able to tolerate such a wide range of temperatures.
