The Party Line of Dexter and Chiara: A federal election could be called as early as December, warn Labor leaders at party conference

Speaking at the NSW branch’s annual conference at Sydney’s Town Hall, Labor General Secretary Dominic Ofner told members that the state branch was “campaign ready” in the case of an early election

“History shows us that when NSW Labor is strong that’s when federal Labor is strong,” he said..

“Corporations get to go through a process … but when a trade union is under attack for allegations, rather than get around them and support them and help them work through the process … we attack it and say 'shame'," Mr Hicks said. The PM didn't reference the CFMEU in a winding address that summarised his government's achievements in their two years of power.

NSW Premier Chris Minns to announce ban on 'no fault' evictions at the NSW State Labor Conference

The New South Wales government will move to legislate a ban on no-fault evictions, preventing landlords from ending a lease without a "reasonable" excuse from next year.

Under the proposed changes, homeowners will have to meet one of several "commonsense" thresholds for eviction, which include the sale of the property or if the tenant causes damage.

Under current law, landlords in NSW are able to terminate rolling leases at any time without reason.

The only requirement is that they give the tenant 90 days' notice.

NSW Premier Chris Minns will announce the changes as part of his keynote speech at the NSW Labor State conference in Sydney today.

Both Labor and the Coalition went into the 2023 state election promising to ban this type of eviction.
