The FBI Keeps Losing Desktop Computers

Former NSW Labor ministers Eddie Obeid, Joe Tripodi and Tony Kelly have been hit with criminal charges flowing from an ICAC investigation that found a “deceptive” cabinet submission was made to help an Obeid-related company secure a multimillion-dollar public-private partnership.

The ICAC made corruption findings in 2017against Obeid, Tripodi, Kelly and Kelly’s former chief of staff Laurie Brown following public hearings in Operation Credo, its investigation into Obeid-linked infrastructure company Australian Water Holdings. All four men have now been charged with misconduct in public office, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed late on Monday.

Like most whistleblowers, I was very reluctant to speak out. But people not so much choose to be whistleblowers, instead more likely they find themselves facing a truth so shocking it can’t be kept secret from the public.

In 2003, while working as a senior analyst at the Office of National Assessments, I discovered that intelligence information was being deliberately misrepresented by the government to justify the looming war in Iraq. This would ultimately cost countless civilian lives, destroy a country and facilitate the rise of Islamic State.

Our democracy will be better for it: Empowering whistleblowers key to effective anti-corruption reform
