The tax office has launched legal action against a string of Melbourne nail salon operators, alleging they are owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid debt.
Companies Glamorous Nails and Beauty Tarneit and Glamorous Nails Altona Meadows were both ordered into liquidation by the Federal Court in Victoria on August 8, notices lodged with the corporate regulator reveal.
Both companies reportedly sold their businesses a few years ago, and the individual stores are now believed to be operated by new owners.
The Deputy Commissioner of Taxation previously launched winding up orders against the businesses in June.
Winding up notices are usually issued by creditors of a company in order to enforce the payment of a debt.
If the debt is found legitimate and a company is unable to pay, the business is usually placed into liquidation by the court.
The taxman also launched a winding up order against another entity, Glamorous Nails and Beauty Point Cook, in June, with a hearing in Federal Court slated for later this month.
Insolvency expert Fabian Micheletto of SV Partners, who was appointed liquidator to the Tarneit and Altona Meadows entities, told News Corp that the tax office was the only known creditor to both companies.
“However my investigations are in their infancy,” he said.
“It appears that the Australian Tax Office is collectively owed in the order of $270,000 in unpaid tax and superannuation guarantee charge, across both entities.
“It has been alleged to me that each company sold its business in or around mid-2022, but no particulars of each sale or the purchaser, have yet been made known to me.”
Mr Micheletto said he also believed there were one or more salons associated with the current and/or former officers of the two entities under his control – presumed to be the Point Cook business.
Company documents of the Tarneit and Altona Meadows entities list Chris Hiep Hoang Dao as the current director, from June 2022, and former director Thi Hong Nhung Nguyen from June 2016 until October 2022.
The Point Cook entity also lists current director Chris Hiep Hoang Dao since June 2022, and former director Thi Hong Nhung Nguyen August 2018 until November 2022.
