Fascism is a Death Cult

The fight against fascism is never-ending. Fascism is a cult of tradition, which rejects modernism in all its forms. Its call to action is irrational and always violent, advocating for a cult of death and a cult of…

Life under fascism is a constant battle. There is always an enemy for fascists to fight, and this enemy is always the scapegoat for all of society’s ills. The enemy must be defeated in glorious battle and is at all times both weak and strong. This oxymoron and contradiction is key to fascism, one which creates a cognitive dissonance in those who believe in it. The enemy is two contradicting things, and this cognitive dissonance is resolved through violence towards the enemy.

This explanation is not my own but comes from Umberto Eco’s 1995 essay: “Ur Fascism”, a must read for anyone. What is great about Umberto Eco’s essay is that it is highly modular. It helps us identify a variety of ideologies as Fascist which might not have been called Fascist before. Fascism isn’t one thing but a conglomerate of things which overlap and share commonalities. One fascism is not the same as another fascism.
