They're professionals at this in Russia, so no matter how many Jell-O shots or Jager shooters you might have downed at college mixers, no matter how good a drinker you might think you are, don't forget that the Russians - any Russian and any Slav - can drink you under the table.

Covid changed the world in many ways, and among them was one so fundamental to many of us as to seem essential—our freedom to move around as we like. Travel, as we have known it for the past decades, was suddenly dead, just as now it suddenly seems alive to some of us who live in countries lucky enough to be emerging from the pandemic.

What are you reading?

I recently finished reading Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking: A Memoir of Food and Living by Anya von Bremzen. It was a charming read – at times hilarious, other times sad. I’ve always been fascinated by the Soviet period, and this book was just another insight into this intriguing time in political and modern history.

THIS WEEK, WE CAUGHT UP WITH EVAN PETRELIS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF RENAISSANCE TOURS, TO FIND OUT HOW HE’S BEEN FARING AMID THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

Evan Petrelis is the renaissance man of Australian travel – pun intended. Petrelis and his team at Renaissance Tours, which has been run

Evan joined Renaissance Tours in mid-2016 after a successful 20-year career in communications and public relations consulting

Like culture, arts as defined by artists and critics can be from somewhere unknown, is a mysterious phenomenon, a way an artist expresses their feelings, a means of communicating with others or a process for observing and interpreting the world. Culture and art Is not one thing – it is both simple and complex, and it has multiple meanings for the artist as well as the observer.

Arts and culture leaders can be a force for great good through their arts practice and because of it. They can demonstrate simple truths that can influence people to change their views about the way they live, travel or how they understand complex and creative aspect of various communities and cultures.

On his many travels, Evan Petrelis of Renaissance Tours has found a transit haven few know about
.

Evan Petrelis is managing director of Renaissance Tours, which offers tours and cruises specialising in opera, music, ballet, art, architecture and gardens

First, business or economy?
When I’m travelling long haul to join one of our art and music cultural tour groups, I fly business class as I need to hit the ground running. There’s no time for jet lag. For leisure and short haul, it’s economy
