National lamb record obliterated not once but twice in a matter of minutes

A pen of 33 shorn Dorset-cross lambs from KF and JL Mannes, Coleambally, sold for $431 a head. The lambs had an estimated dressed weight of about 40 kilograms.
It followed the sale of 47 Dorset-cross lambs, 79.8kg liveweight, from Aloisi Ag, Beelbangera, which made $430 a head just moments before.
Both pens were purchased by Southern Meats, Goulburn.
The previous national record of $424.20 was set at Wagga Wagga yesterday (June 12), while Warracknabeal, Victoria, cracked the $410 mark on May 29.
Earlier this week, Forbes claimed the NSW state record of $400.
Elders Griffith agent Rodney Evans said it was an unbelievable sale with heavy lambs around $11 per kilogram.
"I was pretty stocked for the lineup of lambs that we had, and I thought we'd give it a red-hot crack, which we did," he said.
"I got nervous last night as I thought they could have given it a fair whack so I didn't get a lot of sleep."
He said it was an excellent feeling to see their vendors claim the record.
"Our vendors have done an exceptional job of holding onto them for this long and putting in the time, effort and breeding," Mr Rodney said.
"They've put the hard work into feeding the lambs."
As to where the market may go, he said it would be a hard one to predict.
"I'm not sure if it can get much better, but I also didn't see it getting this good."
