Former Bureau (Tanya Pilbersek) of Meteorology (BOM) staff say this week's "ridiculous" $220,000 rebrand is symptomatic of cultural issues at the organisation, where management and messaging are prioritised above meteorology.
'The Bureau of Management': Former staff say cultural issues behind Bureau of Meteorology’s 'nonsense' rebrand
One of the main reasons the Coalition was able to stay
in power so long, despite corruption and incompetence, was a friendly
corporate media. We at MWM
are proud to have held them both accountable. So far the
government of Anthony Albanese has done well in most things, and we
have recognised this.
We are not here, however, to sing the praises of one political tribe
over another, rather to hold all government and big business to
account. So it is that, despite syrupy and dishonest coverage in the
mainstream, we have driven hard on the decision to throw billions in
subsidies at "Port Barnaby", a Coalition idea now
championed by Labor to develop a gas and petrochemicals precinct in
Darwin harbour.
This will open up the Beetaloo Basin to fracking. It has no business
or environmental case apart from lining the pockets of the
government's large fossil fuel donors who will thrive by exporting
gas to foreign customers; indeed exporting profits to foreign
shareholders. It will blow Australia's emissions out by 20% and
contaminate Darwin suburbs nearby with toxic chemicals.
Callum and I, along with contacts and stakeholders, will continue to
cover this story. And for Labor supporters, yes a change of
government is great but we will hold them accountable just as with
the previous regime. To do otherwise would be failure.
Elsewhere this week, excellent result for our columnist Rex Patrick
in his FOI battle over the Sports Rorts documents, Vince O'Grady on
the looming rorts inquiry, further War Powers coverage, directors
duties and the Star casinos debacle, Callum Foote on Microsoft and
multinational tax avoidance and claims of an $8bn Medicare fraud.
The $8bn is overblown but, yes, Medicare is in strife. We need to
save it and restore it!
Thanks for reading and for your support!
