Tipping Point at Yarra cSalt with Burtons and Paul Kelly

There's something about Greek food that turns any gathering into an instant party. And when it comes to dining out, it doesn't matter how much money is spent on design, how highbrow the concept, or how many bells and whistles are rolled out, every Greek restaurant is linked to every other Greek restaurant by DNA - and by variety of fresh fish, meats and seafood baskets. Yanni and Michael take Greek food to a whole new level for a tiny sailing club in the never never land of La Peruse - as someone who was born at the Czechoslovak mortuary in the last century it appeals to me that the place has  chosen to live with the ghosts as the cemetery is a stone throw away.  It's fun, it's loud, it's good value, it's Greek food with the wrinkles taken out and the grey touched up. Yep, we're talking Grecian vision of 2020 .... Agape: The Greeks are fond of staging wakes at CSalt.

Most striking about Greek food is its robust simplicity. It is very much a Mediterranean cuisine based on the freshest of ingredients cooked in a simple fashion: grilled fish, fried whitebait, marinated octopus dressed with oregano, lemon and olive oil. John Dory with Surf and Turf and vegetables that go with the sea views ... Fishstone Wines swimming  in barrels ...

A man lies dead in the street: the image that captures the Wuhan coronavirus crisis

"For growing numbers of people the weekend is an emotional wilderness where interaction is minimal and social life non-existent." Much of this resonated with me.

What the...? Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway (and many other more useful inventions), also invented the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine (the one w/ 160+ flavors)?!

via Jason Kottke: One of my favorite video series is Estelle Caswell’s Earworm for Vox — you can check out my posts about it here. It had been a few months since the last episode, so I went to see if she’d made any other videos in the meantime and, lo, Caswell produced a video about the Metropolitan Opera’s production of the opera Akhnaten by Philip Glass, one of my favorite composers.
The video above gives a behind-the-scenes look at the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Akhnaten. We follow Anthony Roth Costanzo, who plays Akhnaten, through the various phases of rehearsal, from working with his vocal coach in a Manhattan apartment to taking the stage for a dress rehearsal in a costume covered in doll heads.
I’ve only seen one opera at the Met (years ago) and was blown away by the production. I remember walking out of there thinking, “Do people know how good this is? Why isn’t opera a massive thing?” (Although I guess I answered my own question by not ever going back?)
