Sydney is bracing for unprecedented and catastrophic bushfire danger, with conditions being likened to Victoria’s deadly ‘Black Saturday,’ as about 500 schools were expected to close across NSW on Tuesday.
More than 30 uncontained bushfires were burning across NSW on Monday night, having destroyed more than 150 homes and claimed three lives as a state of emergency was declared.
Residents in Sydney’s northern beaches, the hills district, the Blue Mountains and down at Sutherland were warned to remain vigilant.
“If fires start in any of these areas they have the capacity to escalate extremely quickly,” Mr Rogers said. ..
