WASTE OF TIME: Bad experience with Gig Economy: Airtasker

Sometimes the most unlikely things and Airtaskers can change the course of our lives as there is no Australian Business Number associated on the gig underground economy databases

hi there my name is Haris, im a carpenter/foreman and have plenty of experience. im based in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, but dont mind traveling depending on the work.”

We had the bad experience with Airtasker a carpenter called Haris D at Airtasker seems to have brilliant reviews on the website, however our experience was not positive as he failed to return telephone calls or reply to SMS messages and was supposed to come at 10 am to install a door for us … what a waste of our time … surely, if Haris was half decent and walking in our shoes he would have rung or email or sms us to let us know that he cannot make it on Saturday at 10 so not to waste time of so many people… and now the coward even blocked his mobile number!

Insecurity has become an endemic part of British working life” and “the proportion of the workforce employed precariously has ballooned”. The kind of insecurity once associated solely with the gig economy is now spreading through many sectors of employment: the health and care sectors, hospitality, cleaning, hair and beauty, even “previously protected middle-class jobs in academia”.

Please don't use this company

Please don't use this company. Terrible experience. Just now was chasing a tasker who didn't turn up and didn't bother to tell me. This is the second time I try to complete a job with them. The 1st person after agreeing to a job for £77 suddently doubled the quote after I had booked the job with my credit card number. I am now strugling to get the payment back...

Globally Airtasker is getting bad reviews

Sadly for us Haris D was anything but awesome  …

Hi …, generally, when an assigned task is canceled, your payment may be returned as Airtasker credit and you are sent an email letting you know. If you would prefer to have the payment returned to your credit card, you just need to send a quick reply to the cancellation email and we will be happy to do this for you. Hope this helps.

WASTE OF TIME

A very negative experience with AirTasker. Listed a task on Monday to have blinds hung, immediately a gentleman accepted the task and it was due to be completed Wednesday. He then cancelled Wednesday morning and asked to reschedule to Saturday. I agreed. Today is Friday and he has now blocked me and also requested to cancel the task. I have tenants moving into my home on Monday and need this job done. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE. You can't even leave a negative review for a Tasker who doesn't turn up or complete your job. Now I will need to organise a tradesman for the weekend to install them. If you need something done properly and its time sensitive AVOID using AirTasker and go directly to a local business or local handyman.

BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!

Airtasker will take your money and provide no support whatsoever even if you get completely scammed or incur damages or real losses by any of their taskers.

Airtasker simply does not care less whether or not a task is done or not. They take absolutely no responsibility whatsoever for any tasks, work or repairs you have done.

So, if you use Airtasker and have any problems at all you are on your own and will suffer the consequences.

My Task
I had some cracked walls to repair and paint (it cost a couple thousand dollars). The guy came out and did the job and said he guaranteed it will not recrack or he'll come and redo it. Sure enough it all started cracking again within a couple of months and the paint is all lifting off (not done properly but no way of knowing at the time). So, I politely asked for him to please come and take a look and when he finally got back to me 2 weeks later he says nah they're other cracks, get someone else to do it I don't have time and just hung up.

Such a ridiculous lie and situation. So, I lodged a dispute with Airtasker with lots of photos to prove my very clear claim. Airtakser says you paid him and the task is closed, it's your problem now. All I have is his first name and a phone number which just goes to voicemail.

So, I have no way of taking this further and Airtasker refuses to do anything about it.

Such a scam!

Airtasker should be banned in Australia if they cannot make sure their users do not comply with consumer law.

Tip for consumers:
How dishonest and deceitful Airtasker is

Reply from Airtasker

Hi Amy, we're sorry to hear that the Tasker didn't complete the job. Just to let you know that when a cancellation happens, it affects the member's completion rate. A low completion rate can make it more difficult for a Tasker to be assigned in the future, as it is there to indicate how reliable the user is and we encourage Posters to look for this on Tasker profiles.

Members who frequently cancel tasks may also have action taken on their Airtasker account, including limitation.

If you need any assistance regarding leaving a review on a cancelled task, please send us a request by visiting this link: https://support.airtasker.com/hc/en-au/requests/new

I posted a job a couple of weeks ago

I posted a job a couple of weeks ago. Airtasker took my money. It's not pending! Job was supposed to be done this morning. Many communications between tradesman and myself. Tradesman contacts me 90 mins after supposed to be here via airtasker saying he no longer wants to do the job. I either accept cancellation or reject. I would not want someone here that doesn't want to be here. I accept cancellation. I have to wait for refund obviously. Airtasker does not give me option of reviewing tradesman. This is not fair as I would Iike to leave him with a one star review for messing us all about. No doubt he has a better paying job today as he has many excellent reviews or perhaps he has great reviews as he cancellation and those left in the lurch cannot tell the airtasker world. My biggest gripe here is I am not able to leave a review when I have been cancelled on!

Reply from Airtasker

Hi Kathy, we are sorry to hear about your experience. As independent users of the platform, Taskers must ensure that they are able to complete the tasks they make offers on. In the event a task is cancelled, your payment may be returned as Airtasker credit and you are sent an email letting you know.

If you would prefer to have the payment returned to your credit card, you just need to send a quick reply to the cancellation email and we will process the request for you. If you haven't contacted us yet with regards to the refund and/or the review, please send us a message via support.airtasker.com so our dedicated team can assist. Thank you.

Terrible Support when things go wrong

I wont be using this site again. You practically can be scammed on this site, and Airtasker wash their hands of it. People can come to your property, damage it, and if the damage is too low in value, there is nothing you can do. They even take no responsibility for the insurance policy, and just offload to a third party and say "good luck to you".

I'll be shutting down my Account, and will be telling friends and family to never use the site as well.
