Ordinary Saints: FarmMatch

Fear is like a giant fog. It sits on your brain and blocks everything—real feelings, true happiness, real joy.”

Infidelity, bullying callousness, malice — Dickens’ demons were not secret. In fact, they appear in plain sight in his fiction

IT’S ALWAYS IN THE LAST PLACE YOU LOOK: Finally, some good news.

It’s not often these days that there’s good news on two fronts. The nonradical elements in the media are getting restless. And thanks to a band of free market economists, the chances of enacting a cut in the payroll tax that could quickly boost the economy have improved significantly.

As Stephen Miller tweets, “The excuse with camps and Nazi Germany was the world simply didn’t know. It was largely hidden & there was very little media. This is happening right out in the open. The world knows. So what’s the excuse this time?”

REVIEW:  Greyhound. “It’s good but the book is great. . . .  The Good Shepherd is a breathtaking, technically stunning, and daring piece of writing. And what makes it so exceptional are qualities that simply cannot be duplicated on film, despite the great respect screenwriter Hanks shows for the material and the meticulous re-creation of the conditions on board a destroyer during World War II. . . . What Forester achieves in The Good Shepherd is nothing less than an authoritative portrait of how America and the Allies won World War II, because they produced heroes who had no idea they were heroes. Hanks and his director, Aaron Schneider, do a formidable job of turning the details of the convoy’s crisis as described by Forester into something visual, dramatic, and gripping.”

I’ve got C.S. Forester’s The Good Shepherd, but I haven’t read it yet — I’m currently reading his The General, actually.

FarmMatch – “Trusted by 37,596 food eaters. Buy top-tated food From Small farms and buying clubs. We’ll help you find the food you love.” [Please support the local farmers in your area. They have always been there for us – we can support them now by shopping at farmers markets, joining CSAs and sharing information on how to buy fresh locally grown produce, eggs, cheese, meat. And for those in our communities and neighborhoods who may not have enough to eat, think about buying extra at the market and just dropping food off – sharing the bounty, especially during the warmer months when local produce is abundant – is just a small part of keeping one another healthy – in mind and in spirit.]
