Today we say goodbye to our final 747 VH-OEJ as it departs Sydney for the last time. #QF7474 will taxi past Shep’s Mound & receive a water canon salute, before taking off just after 2pm, completing a special lap of honour over Sydney & surrounds. Watch it live on

Qantas announced (see video) retirement of its 747 fleet at the end of June, bringing an official end to nearly 50 years of service with the airline. To say goodbye, Qantas will operate three special ‘Farewell Jumbo Joy Flights’ on 13, 15, and 17 July with its last remaining 747. The aircraft will then depart Sydney for the final time as QF7474 on 22 July. Watch it in Pilhov or Praha or Placcid Lake

A flight to America will mark the end of a significant chapter in Australia's aviation history.

Qantas took delivery of its first 747 jumbo jet in August 1971, and will on Wednesday farewell the last remaining one in its fleet when flight number QF7474 departs Sydney at 2pm for Los Angeles.
