The break would be capped at $500 a year for individuals and $1,000 for joint filers. It would reduce federal revenue by $3.5 billion over a decade.

Single-file tax return suggested in Québec  The Quebec government has discussed the possibility of administering a single-tax system with the aim to collect income tax on behalf on the federal government. The province has collected GST in Quebec for the federal government since the early 1990s, and this request, if allowed, would mean Quebecers only have to file one return as opposed separate provincial and federal returns.  The Prime Minister later announced that the issue was not a priority for the government. Others have suggested it may be more efficient for the CRA to take on administering taxes from the province, as it does for the other provinces.
