Sam Neil on Sydney ... Let Us Pray

All the business of war, and indeed all the business of life, is to endeavour to find out what you don’t know by what you do; that’s what I called “guessing what was at the other side of the river's hill.”

Satirist Denis Carnahan Tears Mike Baird Apart In New Parody Song

Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill has launched into an extraordinary spray at the NSW Government saying policies championed by Premier Mike Baird had “sucked the life out of Sydney” The Logie award winning and Golden Globe nominated actor highlighted the impending ban of greyhound racing and the controversial bar lockout laws claiming they had turned Sydney into a “pointless place”. Pointless Damaged Sydney

When Mike Baird brought Jeff Kennett and John Howard in to address state cabinet recently, they both had the same message. The electorate never judged you at an election for what you had done, they said. They judged you on what you were promising to do. In other words, once you had achieved something, it was pretty much forgotten.
Kennett should know all about this.
He was unceremoniously punted as Victorian premier after eight years of arguably very good work for Victoria. As much as Kennett had done in revamping Melbourne, the establishment of the Crown complex, the building of great motorways and bringing the economy to booming, the electorate threw him out.
Tony Abbott also knows about this phenomenon. He stopped the boats and cut the carbon tax but people seemed to forget about those issues as soon as they were resolved. When Abbott tried to introduce such controversial measures as a $5 charge on Medicare, his poll numbers hit the floor.
What is it with Baird’s social media approach?

The Economist on Sydney and the heightened perceived threat of terrorism

MIKE Baird has convinced himself that the answer to local government inefficiency in NSW is the amalgamation of councils against the will of the people. This is a delusion consistent with his God complex, as he seeks to reshape the drinking habits, sporting interests and government of the state in his own image.
