Inspired by the Wild Law conferences in the UK, the seeds of Earth Jurisprudence have cross- pollinated and taken root in Australia. Dr Peter Burdon (Adelaide University) initiated and organised the first Australian Earth Jurisprudence Conference in September 2009, with support of Dr. Alessandro Pelizzon (Earth Laws), Friends of the Earth Australia and UK Environmental Law Association.

The magnitude 8.2 earthquake that shook Chile on Tuesday evening, prompting a brief tsunami alert across the Pacific, will not be the last major temblor hitting South America.
In fact, a powerful earthquake of 7.6 magnitude has cradled northern Chile just 24 hours after the Tuesday quake. Overall, the earthquakes have resulted in six deaths and 2,600 homes destroyed.

Just like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, the region’s entire Pacific Coast sits on some of the world’s biggest seismic faults.
