How appropriate that it is Miranda Devine, recently profiled by The Bulletin magazine as ‘Ms Middle Australia’, who has finally exposed the hollowness at the heart of much of the fervently pro-‘Mr Middle Australia’ punditry we’ve copped over recent years.
Writing in the Herald today, Devine – with thudding predictability - attacked those of us who have apparently ‘hijacked’ the Rau (and Habib and Barton) stories in order to prosecute what she calls our ‘meta-story’: that Prime Minister Howard is inherently dishonest and even ‘evil’, and that everything can thus only be seen accurately through what she calls that ‘distorting’ prism.
